Tibet Lhasa Samye Tsedang Tour 5 Days Itinerary, Dates, Price

  • Overview

Tibet  Lhasa Samye Tsedang Tour comprising of Lhasa, Samye and Tsedang. These sites have very important places in the history, culture and religion of Tibet. Tsedang is situated 138 miles southeast of Lhasa is the gateway to the ancient Yarlung valley – the base from where Yarlung kings unified Tibet. It was only later that the power center moved to Lhasa when King Songtsen Gambo of 7th century moved his capital to Lhasa. Samye Monastery is the first Buddhist monastery of Tibet and is a testimony of the acceptance of Buddhism in Bon dominated Tibet. In Tsedang, the 1200-year-old Samye monastery mimics the design of the ideal universe described in Buddhist scripture.

Tsedang is considered to be "the cradle of Tibetan Civilization", the small city of Tsedang was once the capital of the Yarlung Valley and is considered a place of great importance for Tibetans. During the 19th century it is thought the city contained thousands of houses, a bazaar, a gompa and a fort. Situated in the lower and middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangpo River, the area around Tsedang features dramatic reaches, pristine lakes and beautiful rivers.

Samye is  the first monastery of Tibet is located 30km from Tsedang and was founded in 779 CE by King Trisong Detsen who wished to revitalize Buddhism in Tibet, which was on the decline. The monastery was designed to resemble a giant mandala with various features of tantric Buddhist cosmology. Religious murals and statues fill the main temple, decorating it exquisitely. Samye Monastery is an important place for pilgrims and has been an active monastery since 1986.
